Deanes of New Zealand 18th century

Journal by JeansGirl

My great grandfather was a Deane and arrived into New Zealand via Cape Town, from Liverpool, England.

He had two older brothers that arrived into Auckland (Patrick with a Margaret Deane - possible wife), New Zealand and bought land. In 1870, one of the brothers (Patrick) sells the land and the family story is that both brothers go to Coolgardie in search of gold.

Brother's names:
Patrick Deane (could be Ross Patrick), born before 1841 in Ireland, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Deane-1321
Antony Deane (could be Anthony) born, born before 1844 in Ireland, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Deane-1078

I am trying to see if they came to Western Australia and if so what happened to them. Did they have children? Where did they settle? When did they pass away?

Any help in advising me on how to go about researching them in Australia would be appreciated.

Hi JeansGirl,
First, a good place to look would be in the Karrakatta Cemetery which has 36 Deane buried there, also covers Freo etc.

You can search on West Australia BDM (frustratingly limited info) but it may be of help

Search the old newspapers Trove. I put in the word Deane just in WA and got 212,247 results !!

Coolgardie Cemetery searches
* On Find A Grave
* A Coolgardie Cemetery Database
* A Government Archival Records with lots of links for Coolgardie, Derby, Geraldton, Greenmount, Kookyne, Wiluna and a couple of other obscure links to Kelmscott?, Upper Preston? & Karridale? for some reason
