William was also recorded as William Henry LOCHLAND in his service record but only signed up as William LOCHLAND when he joined the Army.
William appears to have spent a lot of time in Military Hospitals with Hepatitis and was discharged from duty in London in August 1916 and sent back to Australia in September 1916.
A son named Albert E LACKLAND and a daughter named Maggie LOCHLAND, of 6 Bowater Place, North Melbourne were mentioned in his service record. There was an Albert Edward LOCHLAND died 1937 in Caulfield, Victoria aged 35 years, but no parents were named. No birth has been located for Albert.
In a letter dated 22 September 1916, Mrs Nora LOCHLAND of 6 Bowater Place, North Melbourne, was advised that William would be returning to Australia on the New Zealand hospital ship Marama about the 15 October 1916. Nora died several months before this letter arrived meaning the Army and William were never advised of Nora's death.
Notes for Nora.
Nora, recorded as Hanorah RYAN, married Richard KEARNS in 1892.
Richard was born 1866 in Castlemaine, Victoria, and died 1911 in Clifton Hill, Victoria, aged 43 years. His parents were James KEARNS and Ellen GREEN.
Nora and Richard had two children together and Nora had a few more registered under the surname of KEARNS and RYAN, with the father unnamed. One daughter, Margaret Mary was born 1906 in Hotham West. The birth was registered under KEARNS and then RYAN. The father was not named in both registrations. The Maggie mentioned in William's service record may be the Margaret Mary born in 1906.
