PERSONAL The late Mr John Lough Edgar, whose death took place recently at his station, Thangoo, Broome, was over 70 years of age and the greater part of his life was devoted to pastoral pursuits. Some years ago the late Captain Biddles, of Fremantle, was for a time partner with him in Thangoo. A brother is Mr Felix Edgar, of Fitzroy Crossing and another brother, Mr David Edgar, who spent 40 years on Thangoo Station, has taken over the management of that property. A sister, Mrs D. McGovern, resides at Maddington.

John Lough Edgar was born in Mandurah, WA 5 May 1863, father was Philip Edgar. The family had race horses. He married Alice Mary Park of Fremantle in 1891 .. lots more. I'll leave you to read it.

His partner Frank Biddle's beautiful residence "Ivanhoe" in Fremantle that they demolished in 1966 - as they do. It's a wonder it wasn't Heritage Listed

His father was sometimes known as Philip or Henry or even Felix Henry. Above article has Philip. Most records show 'Henry'

Mr O. BROOKSBANK The funeral of another old and respected colonist in the person of the late Mr Oliver Brooksbank took place on Tuesday morning and was well attended.
The deceased, who had reached the age of 72 years, was stepfather to Mr Felix Edgar of Kimberley and of Mr J. Edgar of Broome.
He was born in Lancashire (England) and came to this State 30 years ago.
The cortege moved from his late residence, 36 Rugh-street, Perth and proceeded by road to the Anglican Cemetery, Karrakatta, where the remains were interred, the Rev L. N. N'Neal conducting the burial ceremony at the graveside.
The mourners were Mrs O. Brooksbank (widow), Mrs D. McGovern (daughter), Mr D. McGovern (son-in-law), Misses Mildred and Valarie McGovern (granddaughters), Mr Frank Cornelius, Mr Gourley (member of Leonora), Mrs Gourley and many others.
Many handsome wreaths, letters and telegrams of sympathy were received.

CENTENARIAN'S PASSING
The funeral of the late Mrs Emma Sarah Brooksbank, late of Ruth street, North Perth and formerly of Mandurah, took, place yesterday afternoon, the remains being interred in the Church of England portion of the Mandurah cemetery. The Rev. Canon W. R. Burns officiated at the graveside.
The deceased was in her hundredth year, having been born at Portsea, Hampshire, England, in 1835.

In 1850 she left England for Western Australia in the ship Shanghai, which was shipwrecked off Cape Horn and which continued the voyage to Fremantle after repairs had been effected.
Her first husband, Felix Henry Edgar, died in 1880 and was buried in the Pinjarra cemetery. In 1882 she married Oliver Brooksbank who predeceased her by many years.

Apart from short periods at Perth and Fremantle, Mrs Brooksbank had, since coming to this State, lived at Mandurah.
She retained all her faculties and was active until just before her death. Two months ago an evening was held at the Salvation Army Aged Women's Retreat, North Fremantle, to celebrate her ninety-ninth birthday.
Among her memories was one of the departure of troops for the Crimea.
She leaves four sons, two daughters, eight grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and five great-great-grand children.

The chief, mourners were Mesdames T. Eacott and D. McGovern (daughters), Mr. N. H. Edgar (son). Mr and Mrs F. Ward; Mr and Mrs L. E. Eacott, Mr and Mrs S. Eacott and Mrs S. Renfry (grandchildren). Messrs R. and H. Ward, W., H. and A. Eacott (great grandchildren), S. A. Ward and F. Eacott and Mr and Mrs J. Eacott (cousins). The pall-bearers were: Captain J. Cocks, Messrs E. K. Veall, J. Cooper, W. T. Gill, C. Tuckey and J. S. Foulkes,
Miss A. Hull represented the Salvation Army Aged Women's Retreat, Hopetoun, Harvest-road, North Fremantle.

thank you ngairedith for all your info you posted above. I am just starting to look into this side of my family.
John Lough EDGAR was married to Alice Mary PARK (who is my 2nd gr grand aunt) and I was trying to work out his parents and siblings. So this has helped immensely. I knew of him and Alice being at Thangoo Station so am very interested in finding further info on him and her.
Also his brother Felix was witness at my 2nd gr. grandparents wedding with Alice Mary PARK as the other witness. (being that my 2nd gr. grandfather was a police constable at the time in Derby, had been friends with Felix EDGAR for at least some 10yrs, and Alice Mary PARK being my 2nd gr. grandmothers eldest sister).
