Eleanor Elizabeth ‘Lizzy’ Stone Vogel

Query by MamaBean13

Vogel-Gross-Stone
Looking for information on my great grandmother Eleanor Elizabeth ‘Lizzy’ (Stone) Vogel who married a Kenneth Joseph Michael Vogel in 1933. Mr. Vogel was born in Baltimore, MD in 1914 to Michael Vogel and Barbara (Gross) Vogel. Eleanor may have been born to a Harmon Stone and Mrs. (Williams) Stone.
Kenneth Joseph and Eleanor Elizabeth had three daughters from 1933-1937 named Joyce A, Joan K and Dolores.
My grandmother was Joan K and she never knew her mother Eleanor. Story has it, her mother (Eleanor) was young and did not want the responsibility of being a housewife and mother (probably suffering from untreated PPD and lacking support); Her father (Kenneth) was an auto mechanic and later joined the Army. My grandmother (Joan) remembers having a baby brother that they called ‘buddy.’ One day their mother just up and left and no one ever heard a thing from her. The babies were ‘left on a pile of soiled diapers.’ Their 23 year old father could not support them and his mother Barbara had remarried a Mr. Hart and did not want them either. So Kenneth Joseph went to his mother’s sister named Margaret Gross who was a spinster in her 40’s. Margaret since she was young had cared for her father Frank Gross while he battled with colon cancer and was currently caring for her elderly mother Catherine Gross. She had at one point taken in her sister Barbara and her all of her kids (Kenneth, Margaret and Dolores). When Kenneth realized he could not care for his girls and his wife never came home, he brought them to his Aunt Margaret’s. The three girls grew up without their biological mother and father (because he left and joined the army and died young.) The baby boy ‘buddy’ Vogel was not taken in with the girls and anyone that knew of him has long since passed away. It was assumed that he may have been from a different father or someone in or close to the family took him. Baby boy would have been born around 1937-1939. My grandmother always kept searching for her baby brother and mother but never could locate them. She and her sisters lived with their great aunt at 2246 Kentucky Avenue, Baltimore City, MD at the 1940 census. Many of the older family members are buried at the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Baltimore. My grandmother knew nothing of her mother. From barely legible research documents, Eleanor Elizabeth (Stone) Vogel may have had a brother named Edward Stone, a father named Harmon (Hermon?) Stone and a mother with a possible maiden name of Williams. She may have gone by ‘Lizzy’ or changed her name. She would have been born somewhere between 1914-1920. She would have left town (Baltimore, MD area) between 1937-1940. Just want to know her story and see how her life turned out. Would like to finish the research my grandmother started. Any info on the Gross-Vogel-Stone families of Baltimore (Brooklyn, Bavaria, Prussia) would be greatly appreciated!
