APPLEYARD, Ordery / Awdry / Audrey born abt 1777

Ordery was born in Lincolnshire possibly Old Clee. She was tried in Broughton for theft as follows:

Audrey Appleyard, a spinster, was tried at the Lindsey Quarter Sessions court on 5 October 1798, aged 21. She was convicted of stealing a checked silk handkerchief, 2 cotton pocket handkerchiefs, a girl's neck handkerchief, a woollen petticoat and a pair of women's white [?], the property of Thomas Neal. She had been previously imprisoned at the Kirton House of Correction. She was sentenced to 7 years transportation, and was transported to New South Wales on the ship 'Earl Cornwallis' in 1800.

She married John Gowen, a marine on the First Fleet in 1805.
