PRICE from Liverpool

Journal by Dyan22

Hi. I'm looking for some clues as to the when and where of my g.g.grandparents Thomas and Mary Ann PRICE.
Thomas was born around 1803.
Mary Ann BROWN born around 1811.
Their son William was born in Liverpool on 15 July 1842(gravestone)
a couple of months before they emigrated to New Zealand.
Now I don't know if they actually came from Liverpool or they were staying there prior to emigrating.
I would be absolutely delighted if anyone could find some clues.

Regards,
Diane Thorn

Dear Diane, Welcome. I'm from Queensland, Australia and hubby is a Kiwi too.

Some clues would be to try and find your family on the 1841 Census (prior to William being born). And Liverpool is in Lancashire, England.

Try signing up as a free member of rootschat and post a new topic at Lancashire Lookup Requests - England at rootschat.com

Have a read of what other people have submitted to get the feel of what you should write. And also look at resources for Lancashire.

Q.Do you need any help with NZ research? Have a look at my profile and see the journals I have written for New Zealand - it includes heaps of excellent website links for your research ... all for free.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers,
Alison aka 'allycat' Rootschat Senior

Hi Alison,
Thanks for your welcome and suggestions.

Yes, I've tried the 1841 Census but no results that I could call definitive.
William was not born at the Census and I don't even know if Thomas and Mary Ann were married then.
William PRICE and Mary Ann BROWN are such common names as you can imagine.
Thomas's death certificate only states he came from England, so it is back to square one with regards to where exactly he was born.
I think Mary Ann's death certificate might be my next avenue.
Death certificates are now so expensive in NZ compared to just a few years ago, that I exhaust all avenues before sending for one. LOL

thanks again,
Diane

Hi Diane, You may very well have to purchase his death cert in NZ then. Should give you more information.

You could also try posting a request at rootschat - parish registry search for the marriage of Thomas & Mary Ann perhaps. I realise they are common surnames. Try Liverpool/Gravesend. You never know.

And post your tree online somewhere, tribalpages is a good start as it's free.

Good luck.
Alison.
