Dear Adrian, Hi there. Sign up as a free user of rootschat if you haven't done so already. Then goto this link Suffolk Lookup Requests at Rootschat.com

Post a new topic with subject headings similar to the ones on the board.

"1901 Census Lookup Request pls LINGWOOD family of Brandon"

Then have in the body of your document:-

Dear Rootschatters, Trying to find out more information on this family and hoping that they can be found on the 1901 Census for Suffolk.

Edward LINGWOOD and wife Ann THOMPSON
Issue: Herbert Stanley LINGWOOD born 1894 Brandon

Could somebody please do a lookup request?

Thanks,
Adrian.

Then, once you've found your family including any brothers/sisters born and where they were living, father's occupation etc. you can work backwards and get somebody to do an 1891 Census Lookup Request and then keep working backwards with the parents names in each successive generation to 1841.

Kind regards,
Alison.

Hi Adrian, as soon as I had posted my reply I realised you were Adrian1965 (was it) on there and had already done so.

You will have to be patient, on rootschat boards some counties are frequent by lots of people whereas others aren't. I have had no replies whatsoever to some Irish lookup requests but I suppose that it is be expected (records burnt/destroyed etc). Whereas for others people who are complete strangers have gone beyond the call of duty and supplied me with so much information that I really can't describe here. Just fantastic!

I'll bet you're glad you joined up with ftc and rootschat. Although it's good to have your tree on genes.

By Christmas you will have found out so much information. Where and how are you storing all your data?

Cheers,
Alison.

Dear Adrian, so glad to be of some assistance to you then. That's funny re: spouse being personal secretary! I hope she loves genealogy too.

I store all my data in PAF - Personal Ancestral File. You can read my journal on downloading it for free. You can print a family tree book from it, add photos, images, bdm certs, etc. anything really. It's very flexible.

Alison.
