Looking for link between Hatfield and Vance

Query by enmtown

I know there were several prominent names in the area of Logan co. Vance is one of them. My Grandmother was Laura Belle Vance, born 8/31/06. She married a Keith. Her mother's name was Matilda Lowe, and was married to Lewis Vance. I am trying to locate his information and will post it as soon as I get it. My mother remembers alot of talk about the Hatfields, of course, they were the big newsmakers of that time, but she believes that we are related but isn't sure exactly how. I will post all information as I get it. In the meantime, I welcome any information that anyone has to offer.

Hi, thanks for responding to my search. Since I began looking for the connections between vance and hatfield I have come upon several marriages between the two families dating back as early as the 1700's. I believe I have found the link that I was looking for. Devil Anse's Mother was Nancy Vance. Father was Ephraim (Big Eaf) Hatfield. Ephraims father was Valentine, his father was Ephraim and his parents were Joseph Hatfield and Elizabeth Vance. I have birth and wedding dates if you are interested. I think I may have run across a Jim Vance and Mary Hatfield. Do you happen to know who their parents were and maybe birth dates? And who were your parents, grandparents etc.? maybe we are related. My family is from the Logan area.

hi my grandmother was a hatfield although i do not think we are related to the hatfields you are related to. i have found on ancestry.com that there was an isabell/isabella vance who was born in 1815.she married a john hatfield her parents were abner vance and s. howard. so if you start with your grandmother and work your way up. it would be laura vance then her father lewis vance then his father paris smith vance and then his father richard vance. he was the brother to isabell. so your g-g-g uncle would have been john hatfield.

Our family "supposedly" had an ELIZABETH VANCE, who was "supposedly" a daughter of Ephriam VANCE and who was "supposedly" the first wife of JOSEPH HATFIELD. Records do show he married Rachel Smith as his "supposedly" second wife. There is NO records or proof of any kind of this VANCE-HATFIELD marriage. All manners oI family records list Elizabeth as one of our ancestors! I am a decendant of their 'youngest son' Ale Hatfield. Ale did name a daughter Elizabeth--maybe for his mother?

Hatfield and Vance blood united in the generation of Anderson ??Devil Anse?? Hatfield (1839?1921), whose mother was Nancy Vance. Nancy Vance was the daughter of Abner Vance & Susannah Howard Vance. Nancy's brother, Abner Jr was the father of John Patterson Vance, who was the father of Eli"Scratch" Nelson Vance(who was "Devil Anse's ggg uncle),who married Maggie Mae Perry-Vance(d. Jan. 20,1966)who had my Grandmother,Lucy Vance( which she would be related to "Devil Anse as a third cousin),(d. February 13, 1974) "Scratch ( my ggrandfather)and Maggie had (not in order), Lucy(my grandma), Lola, Lilly, Lissie, Lakie,(aka Girlie) Lula, Eli, (aka Big man), John, Roscoe, and Ermond (aka.Jiggs), Isaac(who was known as little man),but was killed in a mining accident). Eli had a twin, Naaman, who died around the age of two. If anyone knows where the nicknames "big man" and "little man" came from, we would really appreciate the story. Lucy married Hazel Trent, and Roscoe Vance(Lucy Vance Trent's brother)and Tessie(Hazel Trent's sister) married and then the double cousins began, when they had their children, Jr. Marcell, Boots, Janet and David Vance. I have read your questions about Elizabeth getting into trouble with a man is correct! He was a doctor, and Elizabeth's father did kill him and went on the run. Eventually hung, he had written a song in jail. Will have to post that later, lol! Too confusing!
