I am a descendant of Robert Evans, born cir 1820. I have no information about Robert's place of birth or parents names.

Robert served in Australia with the 11th Regiment at least until his marriage in 1849 to Janet Meldrum. They were married at Scotts Church Pitt St Sydney, Robert may have become a policeman as his daughter's death certificate claims he was a Constable. Trooper Robert Evans died in 1852 when he was thrown from his horse near Braidwood NSW. Children from the marriage were Ellen (1851) and Mary (1850). I am descended from Ellen.

While I don't have enough information to claim that John Evans and Robert Evans were related, it seems there are a lot of similarities in their lives. There is a nice gap between John and Ann Evans in your list where Robert may have fit. My records show that Robert may have been stationed with the 53rd Regiment in Plymouth in 1841.

I would love to know your thoughts.....

I am native of above village, descendant of Isaac Jones farmer of Tanygraig and last residents of this now long derelict farm; I am also possibly related to the Evans family.- Catherine; second eldest daughter of Isaac Jones had illegitimate daughter called Margaret Ann and whom married Robert Evans (miner) of Tanygraig (most the miner's cottages had no name and were descriptively called as to their location - Tanygraig - Below The Cliff)
Concerning Inquiry- St Cynog PRO states:-
1808 May 25 Robert Evans married Sina X Maurice of this parish. Witnesss -John Morris (bachelor) & Jane Morris (spinster). Very likely bride's siblings.
Previous to 1841 Census' Children
Robert b. May 6 1809
Sina b. Oct. 2 1811
David b. Dec 16 1813 Father Rockman (miner) of Pencraig.
Their descendants - Edward Evans still lived until very recent.
On Census - Ty Newydd (meaning New House) Later called Tanymarian (Trans.Below the Scree).
The name Sinah was still carried on,Edward Evans who lived there's daughter was called that.
His brother Robert Evans was killed in WW1 in 1916.He Robt. was
prev. a coal miner living at Aberfan South Wales ( Where that terrible tragedy happened 1960's, and is possible invovled his grandchildren.)
(The above)Sina born in 1811 died in Jan.17 1826 living at Waun Cott. at Pencraig - where the lead mines were situated, (thus next female born in 1826 was also called Sina
John Evans is possibly found on shipping list of his emigration to Australia - If you find please check the same list for William Jones b. 1827 of Tanygraig whom is said similarly emigrated there -No trace of him after the 1841 Census, but a descendant daughter Victoria came to Llangynog just after WW2 and possibly married or she returned to Aust.

I have 1861 census of Pencraig and apparently Sinah Evans b abt 1826 married David Jones & lived more or less next door to her parents, Robert & Sinah.
John Evans came to Australia as a soldier abt 1840 but he is not listed it's just that was when his army unit arrived.
Do you have further information about Edward & Robert Evans?
John Evans was not in the 1841 census so he must have been left Wales before it was taken!!
There is a site to look up shipping but it has changed since I used it last but I will try to find out if your William Jones is listed.

I have an interest in the EVANS family of LLANGYNOG, Montgomeryshire, that of ROBERT EVANS b.1844, (son of ROBERT EVANS b. DOLGELLY, Merionethshire 1844), and his wife JANE; their eldest son, ROBERT EVANS, b.1864, died in France, 1916, (married to HANNAH MARIA and living in MERTHYR TYDFIL at the time of his enlistment); other children, WILLIAM, DAVID, EVAN, JOHN, HUMPHREY, ELLINOR, OWEN, EDWARD.

I believe the ROBERT EVANS who died in WW1 to be the brother of my grandfather ALFRED WILSON, born in LLANGYNOG c.1868. I have not been able to find ALFRED WILSON, who worked as a coal miner, on any census before 1901, when he is located in HOLLINWOOD, Lancashire with his wife MARY ELLEN BROOKS, whom he married in 1896. Apart from attending a funeral in Wales during WW1 and receiving a surprise visit from WILLIAM, he appears to have had no contact with his family; my mother sent a telegram to somewhere in Wales when he died in 1927. Any information to place my WILSON grandfather in the context of this EVANS family would be much appreciated by myself and my aunt, his youngest daughter MARY, who lives in OLDHAM, Lancashire.

I am the great-great-grandson (through my father's mother) of Thomas Evans who was born in 1829 at Cwmdwygo. His father, Edward Evans (1791-1867) was born at Llanrhaiadr Ym Mochnant, and died at Ty Ucha (? - not sure of spelling) at Llangynog. All his children, including Thomas, were born at Cwmdwygo. That is virtually all that I know. If anyone can help with any more specific placenames, or if there are Evans gravestones of that period anywhere in the area, I would be grateful for any information. Thanks. Guy Hamilton.
