Looking for Harvey D Dwyer, born in Oklahoma

I am searching for my great grandfather, Harvey D Dwyer, born in Oklahoma in 1899. He married my great grandmother, Callie Shackelford, in September 1921. My grandmother was born in March, 1922, and he left shortly after, never to have contact with his family again. They divorced at some point, because Callie remarried. I have been in contact with distant cousins, who have provided me with photographs and family history. However, no one knows what happened to Harvey. It's possible he moved to Idaho and started a new family. I am still researching that possibility. The Harvey in Idaho and Harvey from Oklahoma were born exactly one year apart. Maybe it is a man hiding from an ex-wife and child. I don't know, but I hope to find out.

I received a copy of the obituary of Harvey D Dwyer from Washington. I am 99% sure I found my Harvey D. The birth date is listed as June 22, 1900,in Uncas, OK and lists sisters Julia, Gladys, and Rose as survivors. My Harvey was actually born June 22, 1899, in Uncas and does have sisters named Julia, Gladys and Rose. I do wonder why he lied to his family about his birth date. In the 1930 Idaho census, he used 1900 as a birth date, also. It seems he was trying to hide from an ex-wife and child.
I am trying to contact the children listed in the 1973 obituary, and while they are in their 80's, there is a chance they are still alive.
My grandmother will be happy to know she has sisters, even though she will never meet them.

vpete on 2007-02-12 09:30:46I haven't been able to update my information for a while, because I have been so busy, conversing with my new found family. Yes, I found her sisters, and they have been reunited over the phone. They have shared letters and pictures. There is talk of a visit.
I requested a copy of their mother's obituary in January, and had updated locations on both. I found an address for one of the sister and sent a letter. Three days later, I received a phone call I could only hope for. It was Jean, the other sister. We spoke for over half an hour, and we were both so happy for the news. My grandmother spoke to her shortly after. One of my aunts and uncle have spoken to both of their new aunts.
I am so happy I was able to find them. I couldn't believe I was able to accomplish what I set out to do. But it was my grandmother's wish, and I am estatic I was able to do this for her.
Harvey D was a very good father to them, although she had a good step-father, she still feels abandoned by his family who lived nearby. Harvey was very young when they married and the pressure may have been too much. But at least he grew up when he married Faye.

I always knew him as a very quiet and gentle person. He always smiled. He loved to take pictures and always had a camera handy. He was quite the camera man. I'm glad your grandmother got to meet the other part of her family.

It had a head stone in the shape of a log? I could not make out the writing and wondered what it said. I was also wondering if the head stone represented something native american?

I have pictures of it and the inscription. I sent you an email with the inscription. I am not sure why he selected that headstone, it would be a great question. His family was from Ohio and his wife,Mary Elizabeth was born in Kentucky. and his father, Edward, was born in New Jersey and his wife was from Virginia.
