Looking for Barracloughs arriving in Australia

Query by bronzehues

I am researching my maternal Barraclough roots. I believe my great grandfather Lewis Smith Barraclough, born in Little Horton, Yorkshire in 1856 and after the death of his mother and his father Jonas remarrying, Jonas took his familyin 1860 to New Zealand to go into business with his brother John at Oamaru.

I am trying to establish when Lewis immigrated from New Zealand to Sydney Australia. Lewis married a Mary Ruth Chilcott (of tasmania) in Bathurst New South Wales in 1882.

Anoth loose end I am trying to tie us is that Lewis and Mary Ruth had a daughter Mary in 1890? She was their youngest child and I can find no record of her other that she was mentioned as being alive on Lewis' death certificate in 1925. My grandfather was Percy Lewis, eldest child born 1886 the second son was Theodore Jonas born 1888.

i am also researching, Richard Barton born Patterson River,NSW 1863 he married Mary Ann Singleton, daughter of Richard Singleton (He arrived with his siblings and parents, Richard Singleton and Hannah Speedin Australia on the ss "Briton" in 1844) and Sarah Cates (She arrived in Australia with siblings and Parents Edward Bright Cates and mother Sarah (nee?) on the "Agenoria" 1849.

Can anyone assist with any iformation about any of above?

Hi,
Have you tried the papers past website. Not sure of the website URL but you can google 'papers past' and it will come up.
It's a website that is maintained by the Turnbull Library. I have found a lot of my ancestors BDM and advertisements. It's easy to use just put in the surname.
Good luck
