Fleming (Northern Ireland)

Journal by Bobbi

I am researching a Noble Fleming. Date of birth unknown. He married Margaret. Child of Noble and Margaret is Margaret Jane born abt. 1834. She immigrated to America abt. 1856/7 where she met and married James Sanderson also of Northern Ireland. I know this is just sketchy information but I'm not sure where to go from here. I'd like to know where in Northern Ireland they came from.

Dear Bobbi, Hi there. I've actually just started researching the FLEMING surname myself on behalf of my mother-in-law, although they were from New Zealand, and possibly Ireland originally.

FLEMING is an English, Irish and German surname.

With genealogy it is all too easy to go off on a wild goose chase. It is best to stick with facts, work logically, and most of all work backwards from yourself.

Do a search here for the words 'free', 'freebies' and 'newbies' to access/download lots of great information to aid you in your search.

Alison.

You would be well served by a book that was published in 1972 by Lee Fleming Reese by the title "John Fleming - Carolina to California - Some Descendents and In-Laws". This exhaustive work on Flemings in North America is several hundred pages in length and contained a wealth of information about my particular line of Flemings all the way back to the immigrant in the early 1700's. There's a good chance that your ancestors are in it. The book is out of print but is often available for review in the geneology section of most large libraries.
Good luck!

My great-grandfather was called Noble Hutchinson Fleming. He was born in Northern Ireland in about 1827. Could he have had a sister, Margaret? I have no information about his family. He moved to England and had one son, also named Noble. I would also be interested to learn more!
Best regards,
Anne Fleming

My great grandfather came over to US as a small child in 1857. He came with his step dad Michael Fleming and other family from Dublin. They came to US through Montreal Canada which was common at that time. You might find Immigration records
there.

I just Googled (Noble Fleming) out of interest, as I have never come across "Noble" used as a first name before. Are your people related to the big name in tea tasting perhaps??

Thank you all for your response.....I have had no luck with my Noble Fleming at all. So....I don't know....I think perhaps Tyrone..but not sure! I have Sanderson in northern Ireland too but no luck with that either!

My Irish family from Tipperary and Wicklow...having much better luck! Not sure where to start!

Thanks again....Barb

SilverVixen:
The people you refer to are his grandfather and father. The older one came from Cork, Ireland (I mistakenly said Northern Ireland in a previous post). This is the one I would like to learn more about. He started the company Silber & Fleming in London. There is a lot of information about that on the web which you can see if you Google it.
