researching COLLINGS from Devon , England
Hi , my name is Dave Collings . I have been researching my family history and have come to an abrupt halt with my Great Grandfather William Henry COLLINGS. I know that he was born in Devonport , England on 30th June 1830 and that he was a Petty Officer in the Royal Navy . He was married to Eliza Maria LUCKS , also from Devonport. They had six children of whome , my Grandfather James Thomas COLLINGS was born in 1877. Of the others Eliza J.COLLINGS was born in Dundee , Scotland in about 1867 , the rest were all born in Devon , they were Florence K. COLLINGS born about 1870. William H. COLLINGS born about 1872 . Lillian M. COLLINGS born about 1875 and Frederick E. COLLINGS born about 1889. I would love to know if there are any descendants of the above out there anywhere.
For interest my great grandfather was trained on the training ship H.M.S. Victory then served on H.M.S.Cambrian,H.M.S.Bellerophon,H.M.S.Cornwallis,H.M.S.Sampson, H.M.S.Cambridge and H.M.S.Liffey. At least one of these , the Cambridge was a gunnery training school at anchor and basically a hulk.
Regards to all.
