Hello there;
I am trying to trace my 3 X great grandfather Thomas Usher, born in Ireland, about 1829. Do you know if the Thomas Mollins Usher maarried to Eliza Leer was previously married to Margaret Maloney?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Andrew McLeod

Hello Andrew,
I have not done much research on the Usher family. All I know is that in 1871 my Thomas was living at the Army Navy Inn in Stoke Dameral, Devon as an army pensioner and beerseller. In 1881 he was at the Octagon cellars Plymouth St Andrew, Devon. In 1881 the record says he was born c 1819 Tralee but it could be a misprint as the 1871 says 1829. My Thomas may have served with John Henry Leer as there was an army tradition for fellow soldiers to marry widows of the regiment. If this is true then Thomas may have served with the 22nd regiment or the Royal Canadian Rifles. Sorry I cant be more helpful
Cheers

Thanks Shauna,
My Thomas served in the 77th Regiment of Foot and later became a licenced victualler (per his sons marriage certificate - John Joseph Usher m Mary Isabella Canny 1879). We will keep searching!
Andrew
Hi Andrew,
Thanks to Verity I can confirm that we are actually step relatives as Thomas Mullins Usher and Margaret Maloney were in fact the parents of Margaret Usher born in India 1862. After Margaret Maloney died Thomas would have become step father to the Leer children.
Cheers
Shauna
PS: Well done, Verity!
