Kelly Family Adelaide 1837 onwards
I am following my great great grandmother Cecilia Kelly, who came to Adelaide in 1840 with her husband Edward Owens and infant child Patrick born Sheffield 1839. They subsequently had another 5 children and both died in 1853 in Happy Valley south of Adelaide.
Other evidence suggests there were a number of the Kelly family who came to Adelaide, and from my research certainly two sisters of Cecilia arrived in 1843 (Mary MacDermott and Ellen Shinnick, both nee Kelly).
Other research has indicated two other sisters (Isabella Kenihan and Lucinda Kelly) came, as well as a brother James (and Mary) Kelly. The parents (Dominic and Lucy Kelly) also arrived in 1843.
I am trying to confirm the facts around these Kelly arrivals, as the evidence is confusing. There are numerous Kelly people who come to SA and it is hard to work out who is related.
Another researcher vinsdotter has reported that Hugh Kenihan aand Isabella Kelly arrived in SA in Dec 1837 on the Navarino, and this was the ship Sir John Morphett arrived on. I have checked the passenger list, and neither Kenihan or Morphett are on the Navarino (indeed, Morphett arrived in 1836 on the Cygnet).
So I'm interested in any info to clarify the arrival of this Kelly clan in SA in 1837 and onwards.
