Hi,

I moved to NZ 10 year ago from the UK and was wondering if I was related to any Kirkwoods in NZ as there are so many here especially sporty ones which I am myself.

My dad Robert du Thisac Kirkwood grew up in South Africa and then moved to the UK at 25 years old. His sister is Diana.
His dad (my granddad) was one of 5 brothers from Ayr in Scotland who moved down to London and then moved to South Africa. I believe the brothers were architects which I learnt from a chance meeting with a newly discovered relation before I left the UK - but never got their name or contact details.
Apparently my granddad did visit New Zealand. He also fought in the Boer War.

Hello Penny!

I notice this was posted quite a while ago. I have some information regarding my great grandfather (Charles John Kirkwood, 1873 - 1919) which is similar to what you describe for your grandfather but not an exact match. Let me know if this is of interest to you!
