Rev. Wilhelm Julius Kuhn. 1828 - 1913
The Rev. W. J. Kuhn, was one of the first Moravian missionaries in South
Australia. He died on 2 June 1913 at the residence of his daughter (Mrs.Harry W. Bevilaqua), Victoria Park, Western Australia. The Rev. Kuhn was one of the founders of the Point Pearce aboriginal mission station,
and after leaving that neighbourhood he conducted farming operations at Maitland, Yorke's Peninsula and then finally moving to Western Australia. His wife, Mary Jane Bond, married 27 August 1868 at the Manse, Kadina was sister-in-law of Sir John Colton ).
She died on 9 September 1912 in Victoria Park, age 83.
Mr. Kuhn was ordained on July 24, 1864, in the town of Herrnhut, Saxony, the centre of Moravian missionary enterprise. The Moravians, or United
Brethren as they are now called.
Mr. Kuhn was one among four who arrived in Melbourne on November 28, 1864. The Rev. Kuhn and the Rev Mr. Hagenauer had their first experience of
mission work at Ramayuh Native Mission, Gippsland, where they lived in a little pine house of two rooms, which they built themselves. In 1866, Wilhelm Julius Kuhn was invited to South Australia for the purpose of forming a mission station on Yorke's Peninsula.
