A quiet but very pretty wedding was celebrated in St Peter's and Paul's Church, Puhoi, on Tuesday, August 20th, when Miss Kathleen Schollum, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs John Schollum, senr., was married to Mr Wenzl Joseph Schischka, captain of the s.s. Kotiti. The Rev Father Meagher officiated. The bride entered the church on her father's arm and looked charming in a pretty gown of grey silk voile, trimmed with silk and beautiful creme lace and insertion to match. She wore a white hat, trimmed with beautiful ostrich plumes. The attendant bridesmaid was Miss Maggie Schollum, who wore a lovely grey dress, trimmed with lace and elbow sleeves and wore a white hat, trimmed with beautiful ostrich plumes. Mr Lenord Schischka acted as best man. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a lovely gold muff chain, and to the bridesmaid a gold bangle and two gold brooches. Both bride and bridesmaid carried lovely bouquets. As the bridal party were leaving the church amidst showers of rice, Miss Donovan of Helensville, rendered the Wedding march. After the ceremony the guests left for the Puhoi Hotel (the bride's sister's residence), where a sumptuous wedding breakfast was partaken of. The happy couple left for their honeymoon trip to Oahupo and Rotorua, returning via Te Aroha and Thames, the bride travelling in a becoming grey costume, with a hat to match.

Train hits Army truck ~ Private gravely injured.
One Home Guard officer was killed and a guardsman was severely injured when a Army truck collided with a south bound train at Wellsford at 6.47 a.m. to-day. The victims were:– Lieutenant Ernest Lawrence Schischka of Waiwera, killed. Private Paul Waters, driver of the truck, of Wellsford, formerly of Hokianga, condition serious. Several other guardsmen in the truck escaped with a shaking. The accident occurred at a dangerous crossing near Wellsford Township and the front of the truck was wrecked. After medical attention Private Walters was removed to the home of Dr. H. Morrison, there being no hospital in Wellsford. Lieutenant Schischka was the eldest son of the late Mr. Joseph Schischka of Waiwera. He was married but had no family

It is with deep regret that I have to record the death of Miss Mary Katherine Schischka, who, after a protracted illness, extending over several months, passed quietly away on July 2. The deceased was the second eldest daughter of Mr Wenzl Schischka and was universally respected as was fully demonstrated by the large number of relatives and friends from all parts of the district who attended the funeral, which took place at Puhoi on Saturday last. The funeral service was impressively conducted by the Rev William H. Corcoran, P.P.

OF INTEREST, in the Rodney and Otamatea Times, Waitemata and Kaipara Gazette, 27 May 1942 PUHOI PUBLIC CEMETERY TRUSTEES APPOINTED. A public meeting was held in the Puhoi Town Library on 2nd inst. for the purpose of electing five members to act as trustees of the Puhoi Public Cemetery for a period of seven years, the term commencing on 1st June, 1942.
