Boru, You may have already checked this. I went into Google and keyed in, Louise George Labatte, born 1786, Green Bay Wisconsin.
Gave a listing of many Labatte's. What I found interesting in one of the sites was the names of persons doing research and asking for communication. They may have into on Louise George's father. You never know. You may have already checked. Regards, Bob.
Hi Bob... I've googled him and I've lost count of the number of Boards I've posted on or the number of people I've talked too, lol ... Louis George seem's to be everyones Brickwall, nobody has any info about his ancestors ( parents, gr-parents. etc ) its as if he just came out of nowhere , lol ... My only hope is that someone with info will see one of my posts and reply ...
According to some documents I have read of the early French traders at Prairie du Chien. Which includes Michel LABATTE, with Pierre Antaya, Basil Giard, Pierre Lapointe, Charles LaPointe, Augustin Ange. Prairie du Chien is mentioned as Michel's native parish
Its believed Henry George LABATTE was the son of Michel LABATTE and a Menominee Indian woman. They had 3 sons:-
Nicolas LaBatte 1780, Michel LaBatte 1784, and Louis George LaBatte 1786 ? 1872
Michel LABATTE next had two sons FRANCOIS LABATTE 1800 ? 1862 and Archange LaBatte 1803 ? 1861 to a Sioux woman Angelique Wabasha with the Sioux name Noh-Ke-A-Keu

In his book, The Chiefs Wapahasha, by Mark Diedrich, Mr Diedrich tries to unravel the traditions and facts of the Dakota families.
on page 98 "On October 7, 1844, Reed married the widow of Amable Grignon (Archange LaBathe) of Prairie du Chein, who was Wapahasha's cousin."
Archange was born about 1803 to Angelique Wapasha, and Michael Labathe/LaBatte. Her brother was Francoise LaBathe, born about 1799.
This family history agrees with the afidavit given by James Reed for his wife's children applying for Sioux half-blood status under the 1837 Treaty of Prairie du Chein. The Chief Wapasha in 1844 was Wapasha III, his father had died in 1836. So Angelique Wapasha/Wabasha was a sister of Wapasha II and a daughter of Wapasha I.
"I, Francois LaBathe on oath say, I reside at Travis du Sioux. i am fifty-five years of age. My Father was a Frenchman, my Mother was a full blood of the Mdewahkenton band of the Sioux Indians. My parents resided at Prairie du Chein. they are both dead. I had three brothers & one sister living the last i heard from them, two in Canada & one in Detroit. My sister lives at Read's Landing. She married James Read. I am one half blood of said band. I married Judith (Privos?), she has no Sioux blood in her. We have eight children now living. Michael, aged 24 yrs, Joseph, aged 23 yrs, Hariet, aged 21, Matilda, aged 19 yrs, George, aged 17 yrs, Bernard, aged 12 yrs, Elizabeth, aged 7 yrs, Seymor, aged 5 yrs, These children are quarter bloods of said band, and reside at Travis des Sioux, excepting said Joseph, who resides at the Agency. Have trace this for the last 5 years. You have to be careful on how you follow the line back as many of the Labattes' named their children the same. It gets confusing if you are not careful. you can email me mollys_gram@hotmail.com I am willing to share my info. Louie George was married to Louisa Cadette. They had a couple of childre, one of them Michael Labatte Sr. He married Archange Berger, child Louie Berger Labatte, child Louie Napoleon or John Louie Riel Labatte. He married Marcelline Gaudette, child Lucie Labatte. She married Theophile Desjardins child Francis. His children are still alive. You can send an inquiry to the Archives of Canada and ask a question. They will tell you what sites to look in and will give you pointers on which way to go and look. If it is more than 96 years they will send certified copies to you for the registration of what you are looking for ei: marriage, birth, death. Each one of these people had multiple wives and many children.
