Leary of Launceston and Longford Tasmania - desperately seeking!

Journal by singe23

Leary, thomas, 1803-1863 had a large family - hope other descendants will read this so information may be shared. Thomas had eloped with Sarah Wildman.

One daughter Frances married Edward Emerson and died when he was stationed in Malta. Son Thomas James Leary moved to New Zealand for some years, married Catherine Eva from Cornwall and Melbourne and ultimately died in Bendigo, Victoria. Another daughter married Charles Galvin. The Galvins built much of importance in Launceston.

Thomas senior - his birthplace is unknown, marriage place unknown, date and circumstances of arrival in Tasmania (van Dieman's Land) is unknown. For many years he served on juries and earliest references to occupation are to carpenter and builder in Longford . Later he was pawnbroker in Longford and Launceston Tasmania. Sarah Leary died in 1854 of "decline" ie tuberculosis.

I have photographs of Thomas junior and his family
