Leonard clan from Swansea Wales

Journal by scarface

My people are sea men from way back my great grandfather James died at sea on the Iota in Dec 1889 he is resting in the Carbibbean sea. The ship was on its way from Venezuela to the West Indies. This was the year my grandfather William was born. I have lots going back but little on William.

I know his brother David brought him up I have been told he helped build the rail way that goes across Canada and in Winter trapped furs for the Hudson bay company. He was there when ww2 broke out tried to inlist but as hed had a fever was not accepted.

He came back to Wales and enlisted in the I think catering.

Came back married Edith M Gardener in 1915 and later came to New Zealand in 1924 with wife and 2 sons.

I would love to fill the gaps as I never knew grandad William as the war gave him mental problems and he spent years in Lake Alice.

Help on where to look and clues would be great I am 74 so the years are sliding by
