Looking at the Australian Army Service Records Charles LINTERN did serve in both World Wars, and you can view the details online.

His service record for WW2 gave his birth details as 16 January 1892, Dunedin, New Zealand, and names his next of kin as Millie BURAN. Did not state if they were married.

The only marriage located in the N.S.W. records for Charles LINTERN was to Hellen L G WATTS in Sydney in 1913, as you mentioned above.

May be of some help.

When he enlisted in 1916, next of kin listed is his mother, which would indicate wife Hellen was no longer around.

Looks like the 1913 marriage to Hellen WATTS was correct.

And Millie BURAN, the next of kin was Charle's sister.

Well done Janilye.

Millie Buran whom Tonkin mentioned as second war n.o.k might be Amelia Hobbs born abt 1890 and died in probably a nursing home or hospital at Balmain on 4 February 1954.
The wife of Bernhard Buran they married in 1925. He died in Sydney in 1953.
The reason I say this is because there in no other female BURAN deaths in nsw between 1939 and 1981

Indeed Tonkin, I added the above as an alternative to her being Charles's sister just in case it was a friend; and when I searched New Zealand births from 1880-1911, I could only find this under LINTERN
1886/19186 Lintern Amelia Maria Thomas
and this under PETERSON
1898/17078 Peterson Amelia Mary Peter
1893/4986 Peterson Amelia May Mary Ellen Albert William
and Petersen
1887/367 Petersen Amelia Anna Sophia Charles August
1888/12738 Petersen Amelia Margaret Maren Katrina Louisa Julieana Ole Johan Fritz -
1886/8144 Petersen Caroline Amelia Amelia Charles
and NO Buran's
Of course Millie I suppose might be short for Phyllis
Is it possible to check the address of the n.o.k there Tonkin? I'm on someone else's computer at the moment and have no favourites of my own.

It's okay Tonkin I found him in National Archives and the complete files are not yet online to the public. If you wish to request a copy wyn here is the link National Archives

Sorry, I meant to say Millie may have been Charle's sister. I was looking at the info you have above Janilye and I'm trying to join the dots. I'm having a few problems with the NZ site today.

The address for the N.O.K. not given on the Roll Janilye.

I do know that Charles sister Amelia ''Millie's'' dad was a Thomas Lintern from New Zealand and mother Maria, they parted and later Thomas married my Great grandmother Ellen Brown in 1902 who had two boys Edward and Charles,so Millie was a step sister to Charles, she married a Buran i think from south australia, they were into opal mining, and thats all i know, love to find out more ...... a big thank you for your wonderful response's you people are unreal,i just loved reading your replies....Wyn

by janilye on 2012-10-05 23:37:17

Yes and the marriage search cuts off at 1934.
If the complete files in the National Archives give an address in Leichhardt, which they should, because her death says 65 years in Leichhardt, then Amelia is the correct one.

Ahh good wyn. So the first record of birth up there ^ is the right one. Still worth getting his full record, but the wait could be 90 days

by janilye on 2012-10-05 23:49:46

Thank you ngairedith, I didn't see the Millie Amelia journal :o

by tonkin on 2012-10-05 23:50:13

That must be the Amelia LINTERN born in NZ in 1886 to parents Thomas and Maria.

Slowly joining the dots.

If you can give me a few details about this BURAN I will try and find his birth in S.A. for you.

by wyn on 2012-10-06 00:43:44

All i know about Millie Buran is that they had a opal mine back in 1950's...
And yes that is the right Amelia born in NZ 1886....so i don't think the dots are any closer to joining ...
But thanks for all this i'm over whelmed ...wyn
