there are other Ellis's in Lewes and Hamsey area of E sussex. I know this as one lot m into my Banks Glazebrooks. of Lewes and Rodmell etc. so if you have not looked there it may be worth your while. Also the spelling is Maresfield not Meresfield. Owners of land in these areas were the Gage family. I have been doing the Gorings in Fletching and Maresfield back to about 1550
