Query by helmutkramer

Perhaps from Salzburg (1800's).Lived on small plots and operated a vegetable-oil press near Mariampol until 1944.My father Gustav Kraemer was drafted
into the Lithuanian army in ? 1939-1940 and later into the German Army in 1944. He was taken captive by the Russians. After an escape from a Russian prison camp, he surrendered to the British in Austria, spending the remainder of the war near Sheffield,England. In 1947 he was released and returned to Ramhusen,SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN,where my mother,Lydia,my sisters Ida and Ella and my maternal grandmother,Heinerchette Peter and I were living on the Rohweder farmstead.

It was not until 1952 that we were sponsored by farmer William O. Cranford SPRING HILL,TENNESSEE.

We crossed the Atlantic on Liberty ship GEN. C.C. BALLOU, and
arrived in suny, hot New Orleans on MAY 10th 1952.
I started 3rd grade at SPRING HILL SCHOOL and was beginning to learn English.

By November we moved to Cleveland, where my Father worked at the FORD MOTOR COMPANY in Brookpark and mother worked at the Crawford Fitting Company--now Swagelok.

I attended ZION LUTHERAN SCHOOL,LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL EAST,VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY,OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY and University Hospitals.
