Looking for an Evans of Taunton, Somerset, England

Query by BobEvans

Dear Friends,
I am looking for an Evans from Taunton,Somerset,England who migrated to Australia, (possibly Western Australia) with parents, (I think John & Ann nee Salter,) and who settled in Victoria.
They immigrated around 1920, and I am told by there son (now deceased) that they arrived in Western Australia.
The son's name is Cyril, and apparently he had sisters and maybe another brother.
Cyril was born in 1911, however his War Record states that was born 1913, in Taunton, England.
He did not keep contact with his family, and I have failed to find his family in WA.

Any help would be appreciated. Bob

This is a bit strange on 25 April 1924 the DEMOSTHENES sailed for from London to Albany (King George Sound) Australia with a list of EVAN's as follows : Cyril J, Donald S Doris, Edith, George W, Mr Harold G (father?) Harold G, John and Mrs Margaret. BUT then on 27 April 1924 the DEMOSTHENES sailed from Plymouth to Albany (King George Sound) showing Cyril J, Doris, Edith and Lionel C. I am currently unable to download a copy of the original of the first but have been able to do so with the second and that shows them travelling with John & Mrs Ann ENDICOTT. Cyril is aged 12, Edith 10, Doris 9 and Lionale 7. It seems they are all from High Street, Honiton, Devon. I will have a look on the census and see what else I can find

Well I have managed to download some information on the DEMOSTHENES. It seems the family travelled in two lots Harold G & Mrs Margaret travelled with the younger children Donald 2 George 6 and Harold G 4. Harold G senior was an Engineer aged 34 and Margaret was aged 36. The elder children Cyril 12, Doris 9, Edith 10 and John 15 travelled with Mr & Mrs Endicott John & Ann. What happened to them when they reached Australia I have no idea. Margaret was born PURCELL in Birkenhead, Cheshire, she and Harold married in 1911 Q4 in Birkenhead. in the census of 1911 Margaret was still living at home with her parents James a 62 year old "Baker Own Account" his wife Millicent aged 51 "Assisting in business" and 4 sisters, Eveline 20 "Assisting in shop" Marion 18 "Assisting in House" Winifred 12 at school and Norah Kathleen 9 at school

A bit strange,!! I think it is a researchers nightmare, my father (Cyril) told me nothing of his childhood, other than telling my wife a little, which I had expressed in my opening statements above, now I find him coming to Australia, with no parents named Evans, except brothers and sisters, very strange very strange indeed.
Thank you for all your hard work, its great that we can help each other out in regards our family research, I really appreciate you time and effort.
I am thinking maybe their parents died in England and family took over the roles of caring, and helping the family. Well now I have something a bit more concrete, thanks to you.
I am so grateful to you for what you done.. Bob

Can you help me with another issue please? Does the person named as Ann Endicott, that you have found have a maiden name "Salter", are you able to tell me any more about her? I was thinking that maybe she is in fact Annie Evans, and that she remarried to John Endicott, and they then immigrated to Australia, arriving in 1924.
She died in 1924, I think giving birth to a child named as Peggy, who also died in that same year.
That would at least complete this aspect of my father's relationship to the Endicott's. Any help would be of great assistance... Bob
