There is a quite a few Skeggs' in Swansea, Tasmania, Australia. There is a local History Society in Swansea If you would like to contact them, they may be able to help. ( Glamorgan Spring Bay Historical Society )
A number of the Skeggs are from Hertfordshire however, some settled in the East End around Bow, Old Ford, Hackney, Bethnal Green.
My Great Grandfather was James Skiggs (1857-1928)and his father was William b c1822 and moved to Bow married Elizabeth Nash.
It seems that some used Skeggs on the Census and others used Skiggs, James is buried in St Pancras cemetery and he had a number of children one of whom was my grandfather Alexander Walter Skiggs b1890 Rotherhithe d1974 Lewisham.
