I have just started looking for my great grandfather John Lovelace. I have heard that he was from Rutherford County N.C. or McDowell County N.C. My grandfather Charles Alexander Harwood, was born out of wedlock March 3, 1888, in Buncombe County N.C. to John Lovelace and Emma Harwood. John was married to Emma's sister Sara Jane at the time. A few years later Emma gave birth to another son Lee Harwood, also born out of wedlock by John. Sara Jane also had several children by John. Emmit Lovelace, John Lovelace Jr., Ruth Lovelace, Allie Lovelace, Eva Lovelace, and maybe more. My grandfather Charles said that John Sr. came to Buncombe County N.C. in the early 1880's to work for the railroad when it first came to Western North Carolina. We have been told that he had Native American blood. I would like very much to find out who his parents were. Three of John's daughters, Allie, Ruth, and Eva, worked at Asheville School for Boys at Asheville N. C. in the 1930's 40's and 50's. I remember meeting them when I was a teenager.
