I've just started researching the BRAY family on behalf of a distant LARNEY connection via my CANTWELLs.
Interesting website below at RootsWeb ... huge family tree on Brays of North Molton, Devon, England.
BRAY Family
Editor.
The National Archives of Australia has 1,408 records for BRAY.
Commonwealth War Graves Commission 611 records for BRAY, 44 being Aussies.
STate Records NSW click on THE STATE ARCHIVES, click on KEYNAME SEARCH, type in BRAY, click on SUBMIT. So many records here it is unbelievable - immigration, certs of Freedom, pardons, gaol photos, police registers, insolvents, etc.
Another good site...
The Bray Family "...A Family Tree of many generations spreading from Cornwall, Scotland, England and Ireland to Australia..."
Looks like I might have had incorrect info in my post. Other options for Ellens' parents are:
William BRAY b. 17 Aug 1796 - Helston, Cornwall
Ann BARRETT/BARRATT b. 1786 - Gwennap, Cornwall, England
Cheers,
Michelle

Hello, My name is Ramana Braye our last name was changed from Bray to Braye by my great grandfather who was tired of having his mail sent to his cousin who was also named Thomas Alfred Bray. lol
My great great grandparents left Gwennap, Cornwell, England to come to Waratah, Newcastle NSW Australia. Their names were Thomas Bray b.1822 and Sarah Ann Bray whose maiden name was Langeryou, b.1825.
I think your family emigrated when the tin market dried up in Cornwall. I have Tippetts who emigrated for work, as I'm sure the Brays had to - may be worthwhile researching the reason they left Cornwall. Can you get to 'professions'?
Let me know if this has been of some use - have more about the mines and miners... (and pasties!)
