Looking for Bridget GAFFNEY of Stuart Town NSW formerly Cavan Ireland
Bridget GAFFNEY came to Australia on Digby with sister Catherine GAFFNEY. I do not know what happened to Catherine but Bridget married Nathaniel LAWRENCE and they settled in the Hill End, Hargraeves district their final resting place is the Stuart Town Cemetary. In later years they were shepherds and their house rests at the bottom of Burrandong dam. Bridget's and Nathaniel's daughter Elizabth GAFFNEY married John LANG my who was my great great grandfather.

I am Catherine's GG Grandson. She married Felix McLoughlin and lived at Hargraves near Mudgee before moving to Young and then finally Lismore in the Northern Rivers area. Catherine was about 95 years when she died in 1925. Bridget and Catherine had two younger brothers who remained and were looked after in Ireland. A Tom Gaffney who works in Dublin and has a house in Butlers Bridge contacted my aunt who had left a message on the web. He sent us a family tree of the boys. One of Bridget's brothers migrated to Queensland and so also did a son of the other brother.

Noel
Thank you Noel for sharing that information. I would love to hear any information you have of the circumstances prior to Bridget and Catherine coming to Australia as orphans do you happen to have any? Have you seen the photo of Bridget and Nathaniel on the Irish Potato Famine Memorial website?
Can you send me a copy of the brothers family tree or tell me where I can access it. It would be very much appreciated. I am happy to send you Bridget and Nathaniels descendents etc.
Regards Rhonda
Hi,
There's a Gaffney section in the Cavan Genealogy Forum:

Hi Guys,
I'm new to this site, as I use another for my tree. I Googled Bridget and found your notes. Bridget and Nathaniel had a son, Nathaniel, who had a son, Thomas. He was my mother's father. Mum is still with us, but 86 and fragile. I would also like to learm more about Bridget's life in Ireland and that of her family before her, if anyone is interested in swapping notes.
Regards, Terry.
Hello,
My name is Peter. My wife is related to Peter Gaffney, brother to Bridget, who migrated to Australia & became quite an identity in hotel circles in Brisbane.
Possibly could provide some info on Bridget & Catherine, both Famine migrants
Cheers
Peter
Hi Fellow Gaffney Researchers,
I have been researching Bridget Gaffney and her husband Nathaniel Lawrence for a while now, and cannot confirm any details , source documents, from their lives in Ireland and England respectively. Have probably as much info as possible to find of their life in Australia but their native land info eludes me.
Daisy606 I have tried on a number occasions to use that link to the Gaffney Section in the Cavan Genealogy Forum but it appears to be not valid. Do you have any other suggestion as to how I can access this information?
npft1940 Noel, my husband is a GG Grandson of Bridget. Your information helped me to fill in Catherine's life into my husband's family tree. Thank you for that. I would also love to hear about any information you have regarding the rest of Bridget and Catherine's family. Would you be willing to share the family tree of the brothers you received?
Any assistance re info from their family tree specific to Ireland, pre Australia, would be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Linda
Hi there
I'm Peter Gaffney's great great grandson who owned a few Brisbane pubs with his wife Margaret Malynn. I'm looking to find more information about their lives. I have found photos of his sisters Catherine and Bridget and I would love to find photos (and stories) of Peter and Margaret. If anyone can help that would be very appreciated
