Researching Genesreunited and Ancestry.com, I was able to locate my
paternal grandmother, Mary Ann Florence BURGESS, born in Hulme, Lancashire,
August 23,1884, to parents, Joseph BURGESS (b.1857-d.1884), and he was a farrier,
born in Northwich. Ann BURGESS (b.1856 nee FODEN). They were married in 1883 in Salford.
At the time of Mary Ann's birth, Mother Ann was living at 26 Cedar Street, Hulme,
Manchester. Father was deceased. I have Mary Ann's the birth certificate.

I found Mary Ann in the 1891 Census of Salford, St. Clement, Lancs., age 6, living at
27 Branson Street , Uncle William Folden and Aunt Charlotte Foden. Mary Ann's Mother
was deceased. From Census', I have been able to determine that Ann BURGESS died

I have a picture of Mary Ann in her later years and it seems she preferred the name Florrie,
as indicated on the back of the picture to her cousin, Harold FODEN, b. 1897.

In December 9, 1924, Florrie gave birth to my Father, Peter BURGESS, in Locksbottom House,
Farborough. She was residing at 20 Overbury Avenue, Beckenham, where she was in service to
Mr. J. Hugh Jones, Managing Editor of the "Daily News". The birth certificate stated his birth
was in sub-district of Orpington, Bromley, Kent.
