Looking for Burial-Captain Joseph Thomas/Surveyor

Seeking the place and burial details of Canterbury Surveyor, Captain Joseph THOMAS.
He was born in 1803 in Worcester in England.
He was in the 87th and 19th Regiments of Foot
Came to NZ on the ship THE ADELAIDE in 1840.

A Joseph Thomas born England died Feb. at Drybread 1868 and buried at Clyde Graveyard aged 54. Described as "Miner" and "Protestant"

This looks a fairly close match.

There are numerous Joseph Thomas folk.
Our research believes he was listed later than 1868 as a missing person.

That leads us more likely to Australia.
