Looking for Cervantes - Spaniard who died at sea near Waikanae, NZ

Query by simpsonj

Have had extreme difficulty in locating any information about Cervantes who was married to Hana Taura Matangi (1825 - 1882) of Lower Hutt vicinity.

He is reputed to have died at sea but was so decomposed that he was buried at first opportunity at Waikanae (near a church on a hill). - the statement is based upon anecdotal family recollections but may also be recorded by a Carkeek historian from the Kapiti Coast. No year is recalled.

Hana Taura Matangi is gt gt gt grandmother to my wife Hinerangi (Arthur) from Waikawa Bay, Marlborough, NZ

Hello there,
This will make for an interesting research story so I wonder if you have a little more info for me to go on
Also, as a lead, do you think that the Cervantes mentioned in here [http://www.nzetc.org/tm/scholarly/tei-WarEarl-t1-body-d12-d8.html]NATIVE TROUBLE-CERVANTES MENTIONED[/url]
is the fellow we want?
Also, was Haana a wife of Manihera Matangi or was that Haana Waitara
