Looking for CRUIKSHANKS of Cambria,Pennsylvania
My paternal Grandmother was AGNES GILLEN CATHERINE CRUIKSHANK,born May 25,1891,in Banff,Banffshire,Scotland.Agnes died August 16,1947 in Moose Jaw,Saskatchewan,Canada.
Only recently did I discover that Agnes was the fourth of ten children, born to JAMES WILLIAM CRUIKSHANK (1861-1936) and MARGARET CHAPMAN DEY(1865-1944).Agnes was the last of the children born in Banff,Scotland. The family moved to Cambria,Pennsylvania in 1891,the year Agnes was born.Six more children were born in Pennsylvania.
Grandma Agnes died before I was born, and I have never met any of her relatives.
When Agnes was a young lady, she came to Saskatchewan to visit an Aunt ( EMILY JOSEPHINE CRUIKSHANK REDDING ALLEN HENDERSON--she was married 3 times) that lived in the Assinboia area of southern Saskatchewan. While visiting,Agnes met David Fred Layton (my Grandfather).Dave had come to Saskatchewan in 1900--it was still the Northwest Territories until 1905--as a member of the Northwest Mounted Police, which became the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1920.
Dave and Agnes married Nov.16,1907 and homesteaded in the Wood Mountain area in southern Saskatchewan
Wood Mountain is the area that Sitting Bull brought his people to in May 1877 to avoid the U.S.Cavalry.When he returned to the U.S.,some of his people stayed in Saskatchewan. My Grandfather knew some of Sitting Bulls descendants, and learned to speak Sioux.
Dave and Agnes had seven child,my father,DAVID FRED LAYTON JR.,was the second, born in 1910.
I would dearly love to make a connection with some of the descendants of the four brothers and five sisters of AGNES GILLEN CATHERINE CRUIKSHANK.
