My great grand uncle James SHIELDS was born in Ireland and emigrated to Boston around 1868 and married Bridget CORBETT, also from Ireland. They lived in Warren St., and Devon St., Roxbury, Boston. They had eight children, five of whom survived to adulthood, all daughters, Margaret, Mary, Alice, Nelly and Anna. Alice married Dennis COLEMAN onJuly 18, 1897. They had one son John D. COLEMAN, in 1898. Alice died Dec. 12, 1898 and John lived with his grandparents James and Bridget SHIELDS.

Margaret married John E. MORRIS on Sept. 29, 1897. They appear in the 1930 census for Boston but no children are recorded.

Mary married Peter J. GROGAN on Nov. 19,1899. They had two children, John C, and Alice M. All are listed in the 1930 census of Boston.

James SHIELDS worked as a gardener until about 1917 when he worked as sexton at St. Hugh's R.C.Church, Blue Hill Ave., Roxbury where the pastor was Rt.Rev.P.J SUPPLE. I have found no record of his or his wife's death.
