Looking for Dillard Family of Virginia and Indiana

James Alonzo Dillard was born on June 15, 1811, in Jessamine, Kentucky.
His father was John L. Dillard, who was born in Virginia in 1780.
His mother has always been listed as Elizabeth Kearby, who was born in Kentucky in 1791. Recent research indicates that his father was married before and that his wife probably died in childbirth when James Alonzo Dillard was born.
On the 1880 Census, James Alonzo's brothers state that their father was born in Virginia and their mother was born in Kentucky, where Elizabeth Kearby was born. James Alonzo Dillard states that his father was born in Virginia and his mother was born in Maryland.
I have no idea who John L. Dillard's parents were or who his first wife was. Jessamine, Kentucky, is close to the Virginia border.
