Looking for ERANA KOMENE of Kaikohe

Query by perrin46

Kia ora whanau. My name is Mary Perrin living in Brisbane at the moment and I am a 5th G EDMONDS - my grandfather was REIHANA EDMONDS son of HENRY JAMES EDMONDS and MARARA POU. My parents were MATIU EDMONDS and MARAEA TAYLOR.
Everyone is doing such a great job with the EDMONDS line, I decided I want to find out more about my grandmother ERANA KOMENE'S side of the family. I know that I am related to PERE, VIOLET & HOROTIU from Te Iringa Kaikohe - that's about it. Appreciate all the help I can get.

Hi Mary,

From what i know Reihana's father's name was Haare Edmonds.
Do have another look at the whakapapa as I will just in case I had missed something.
If it is Henry do let me know.
I aslo would like to know about Erana's side. From what i do know her mother was a sister to Reihana's father, so Reihana and Erana were first cousins. Erana's mother was Heeni or Jane Edmonds the daughter of Arthur Edmonds.
I do not know much of her Komene side. i think her father was Wiremu Komene (not absolutely sure another one to check out)
There is a photo of her at Teiringa, Paki Edmonds had it and he showed this to me. I dont know who has it now since his passing.
May this piece of information be of help to you. Also there is aphoto of her in the marae down the lane where the Edmonds lived in Teiringa, not Teiringa marae the other one. Apparently from what I was shown and told Erana is next to her uncle in the photo, he was a Rakete.
Look forward to hearing from you
Ana
Reihana and Erana were my great grandparents, my grandmother was their daughter, Daphne Edmonds now passed awaqy 1995.

Yes I finally read the book on the Edmonds whanau and worked out that Reihana and Erana were 1st cousins. If your grandmother was Daphne you would be related to Tauhia I'm not sure if Tauhia has a pakeha name - my father (Matiu) was a brother to your ggrandmother. If you are talking about Okorihi Marae, then sad to say that marae burn't down and everything in it as well. I will follow up the info. you have given me and thanks very much.

Hi there, yes the family called my mum Tauhia her other name is Katerina but more commonly known as Kathy. Mum lives in Manurewa she will be 70 this October. I think Reihana's father's other name he was known by was Mesheck, I could be wrong.
Mum was with me when uncle Paki showed us the photo of their grandmother Erana. I wonder who has that photo now my only regret was I didn't get a copy. Uncle Paki trusted me enough to give me the photo so I could get a copy my only regret is I didn't get around to doing it and I returned it to him as I had give him my word.
If you get any information concerning Erana do let me know. Mum can share her memories with her but mum does not know herself who the komene side is. I think mum said Erana died when she was still quite young, in her forties as I recall the conversation.
Another thing check the husband of Marara, this was Mesheck also known as Hare not Henry but do correct me if I am wrong. He had a brother or was it a son called Henry, not sure now, i will have to check myself:)
Do stay in touch.

Kia ora to you and your whanau. I will stay in touch and tell your mum when you see her that I am Beryl Law's sister. Good to hear from you - I have met your mum when i was over there visiting my beautiful sister who now lives in Epsom. Catch you later when i get more info. I will let you know the outcome. Bye for now.

by anacando1 on 2010-06-17 06:47:45

Will do Mary. I remember my nana mentioning the name Poakatahi Komene, Wirmeu was in there somwhere, this may be a lead.
The sister in Epsom you are referring to is it Beryl? Mum has spoken fondly of her and would love to meet up with her again if it is Beryl?
Thanks again Mary
Take care

Hi, my married name is Sha Tahere. My maiden name is Komene. My grandmother's name is Ihapera Teauraki Edmonds & my Grandfather is Tehira Renata Komene. My dad is Grant Komene. My grandparents had 14 children in total. Starting from the eldest - Tau, Te Aroha, Doreen, Henry, Toko, Milly, Nancy, Lewis, Donald, Tehira(Dilla), Lucille, Grant, Isabel & Ray. I know a few of my grandfathers brothers were Pii & Pere (they were twins). My dad has some of the Whakapapa for the Komene whanau and for my grandfathers brothers and sisters. You might also be able to find information at the family history centres at church. The church of Jesus christ of latter day saints as alot of the Komene names are on record. Anyone is able to go in and do their family history, sometimes you may have to make an appointment...
Cheers

I am Sandra Hinerehua Wood living in Gisborne NZ
Yep I whakapapa through
Heemi Hau Erimana/Irimana ka moe ia a Riana Pateriki (Matiu/Henare/Walters whanau)my grandparents
ka puta
Miriana (Parore)- Dargaville (dcd)
Marie (Robinson) - Marton (dcd)
Arihiana (Netana/Nathan)- Dargaville (dcd)
Pateriki Heemi Edmonds - Marton (dcd) oku matua
Emma (Betty Ambler) - Whangarei

WOW it is so interesting to read these posts I was brought up by my mothers people in the Waikato and did not get to meet many of my cousins from my grandfathers brothers Wiwhareumu and Reihana I met one of his sisters Erana and my understanding is the Komene also has a connection to te whanau Nukunuku no Te Tairawhiti, through Henare ( ka moe ia a Irihapeti(Betty) Reihana)who was whangai to the Nukunuku but birthed a Komene - te whanau Komene no Te Arawa ona whanau i tipua

Uncle Dave Strongman whom I grew up knowing married my aunt on my mothers side (Hotene) and they lived in Morrinsville

Anacondo we were brought up with the belief our great-grandfather was Henry aka Haare died April 1957 and his father Arther aka Aata Heemi, do we have the same person?
