Looking for "Evett"
All I know is my grand father "Lewis Charles Evett" came to New Zealand and married my grandmother and they had a son (my father) born July 1932.
I think he may have came from Edmonton, MiddleSex.

Hi, There was someone on Ancestry doing a family tree which included the "Lewis Charles Evett" from Edmonton, but I think you need the generation after him.The Lewis Charles Evett in Edmonton was born 1874. From what I can see of your grandfather in NZ he married Oriole Linda Robinson in 1932 and had your father, Frederick Charles Evett in July 1932. His name doesn't appear in the electoral rolls till 1935 so I assume he came to NZ not much before he married Oriole. I found his cemetery record at Taita,Lower Hutt which gives his age at death as 70 which means he was born around 1900.
It's quite common for members of family to name their children after parents and sometimes siblings if they were close to them, so I'm wondering if this is the case here. The parents of the Edmonton "Lewis" had a large family. One of them, Richard John Evett marries in 1898 to Laura Beeney in England so your grandfather could be one of their children. Unfortunately they disappear off the english records after their marriage - maybe they started moving this way - australia??
Anyway just some ideas to think about.
Cheers Debbie
Thanks Debbie
My father actually changed his first name from Frederick to John later on. Yes I too found his cemetery record in Taita, Lower Hutt.
Would you be able to give me more information on the parents of the Edmonton "Lewis" family.
Regards
Michelle
Hi Michelle,
Just realised I didn't give you that, also that the Edmonton "Lewis" died in 1912 in London. His parents were James Charles Evett and Margaret Evett. Some of the other children were David John Evett born 1870, Margaret Mary Evett born 1876 and Elizabeth born 1878.
Hope none of the rest of the family thought of changing their name like your father - that really would be a brick wall!
Goodluck
Debbie
Thanks Debbie
Don't think this is who I am looking for as my grandfather Lewis died in NZ. Oh well I may just give up as have been trying for years now and got no further.
Thankyou
Michelle
