I may be of some help. I have an ancestor, Olive BALLOU, b 1814-1816 in NY who married Archibald DEWITT in 1835 in LaPorte county IN. Her father is listed as Wright Ballou. He shows up in the 1840 census in Cass county, MI where Archibald and Olive also had relocated and where my great-grandfather was born. The 1840 census shows Wright as between 40 and 50, which would match your 1792-1799 date. It also shows him with a son under 5 which could be you Orin, having been born in IN (where Olive and Archibald were married.) Wright also received a land grant in 1837 in La Porte county, IN. Finally, Wright is listed with Martha and Orin in the 1850 census in St Joseph county, IN, back across the border from Cass county, MI.

Do you have any information about Olive being a child of this same Wright Ballou?
