Looking for Hamlin of Devon in England

Query by D558WrbJ

At the 1911 Census Amanda Hamlin was 42 yrs of age and described as a Boarding House Keeper in the Parish of Wolborough, County of Devon. The address was 24 Prospect Terrace, Newton Abbot, Devon.
Amanda had 4 daughters, Gertrude b abt 1888; Dora B b abt 1893; Hilda May b abt 1894 and Nena Amanda b abt 1896; all four sistes were born in Torquay in the County of Devon.
Nena or Nina(not sure of correct spelling) was my grandmother, on my mothers side. She married Stanley Keats in June 1919 and they emigrated to NZ from Plymouth aboard the "Tainui" on the 16th Feb 1920.With them was their first born child, Marjorie Joan Keats, my mother, who had her first birthday during the voyage.
I'm interested in the correct spelling of Nena/Nina and any information about Amanda Hamlin and her husband.

Her name is registered as Nena on the birth register. The only way to be certain would be to get the birth cert.

Many thanks for your response. The information provided is very useful and is undoubtably about my family. It seems as though transcription errors are quite common which makes tracing people difficult sometimes.
Some further information that may be useful is that my mother, Marjorie Joan Keats married my father, Maurice Roy Beaven in 1939. They had 3 boys and 1 girl of which I am the eldest. My great grandparents surname was spelt Bevan however my great grandmother apparently didn't like that spelling for some reason and changed the spelling to Beaven. Hence my grandfathers name was Samuel Joseph Beaven and it has been that way ever since.

Nena Amanda Hamlin married Stanley D Keats in June 1919, in Newton Abbot, County of Devon. The D in my grandfathers name has been variously shown as Douglas or Dudley.
Is there anyone out there who knows difinitively which one is correct.

The best way to find out his full name is to purchase the marriage certificate it should also give you his fathers name and occupation.

Thank you

Hi,

Dora Bellringer Hamlin was my Grandmother so we are cousins. She lived most of her life in Cardiff with her husband Michael Lyons who was of Irish extraction. They had four children - Ronald (my father), Harold, William - who is still alive - and Dorothy. My cousin Sue (Harold's second daughter) went to NZ many years ago and met up with members of the family there. Some of your relatives may remember that. If you would like intact details please let me know.

Best wishes.

Tim

Hello Cousin Tim,
Firstly, many thanks for your response. It was wonderful to hear from you. I had just about given up hope of learning anything further than what is shown above. Yes,I realy would appreciate further details and any information you may be able to provide. Nena and Stanley had seven children, my mother being the eldest (Born 27th March 1919. The others were Thomas, Ronald, Eileen, Mervyn, Trevor and Stanley who died a few days after he was born. Aunty Eileen is the only one still living (will be 88 this Oct). She lives in Christchurch. I was born in Ashburton on 1st Sept 1941 and married Sheral, nee O'Connor, in 1966. We have four children, 2 boys and 2 girls. Sheral and I live in Hawera in the province of Taranaki. I have fond memories of Nana Nena as I used to stay with her quite often during school holidays when I was at primary school. Look forward to hearing more from you Tim.
Kind regards,

Des Beaven
