Looking for HAMMARTH of New York

Has anybody ever come across this name? "Hammerth" is in the 1870 Federal Census in NYC and "Hammarth" in the 1880 Census. I believe they came here in the late 1860"s-from Kurhessen,Hesse-Kassel.What toen they came from,which ship, still a mystery. A major brick wall.
