hello MegHeather,
for those who may be descendants I will add a little more info which may help 'jog their memories':
Alfred George HEATHER (1868-1915) married Jane Hannah 'Annie' CONDON (1873-) of County Cork, in 1895 and had a son, Frederick George Heather in 1896.
Frederick George Heather married Lillian Dillon HOPKINS (1897-1980) in 1923

Evening Post, 5 February 1915
... The death occurred at the Kumara Hospital on Sunday night (31st Jan) of Mr Alfred George Heather, late of Otira. A native of London, he was the son of an Anglican clergyman, and 47 years of age. He had been 22 years in New Zealand. Before coming to this Dominion he served in the 15th Hussars Regiment. On coming out to Wellington he joined the Permanent Artillery, and was orderly to Lord Glasgow when the latter was Governor of New Zealand. He was afterwards transferred to the mounted police and was stationed in Taranaki for some time. After resigning from the Force he went to Otira, where he had resided for the past six years

'Annie' remarried in 1921 to Samuel William Mardon (but not verified)

Thanks ngairedith for your response. Does anyone have information on any children from the marriage of Frederick George Heather and Lillian Dillon HOPKINS. There is a Donald Louis HEATHER residing at the same address as Lillian (Electoral Roll 1946, Canterbury, Ashton). Are they related?(Reserve Roll- 1st Division. Recruiting District - Christchurch.)

Frederick George HEATHER is also shown on the New Zealand Army WW1 Reserve Rolls 1916-1917 (Reserve Roll- 1st Division. Recruiting District - Christchurch.) Aural history suggests Frederick George HEATHER served in the Royal Navy 1914-1918 but I cannot find any evidence of this.

Also from the Electoral Roll of 1914 (West Coast, Westland) there is a Helen HEATHER living at Otira as does Alfred George HEATHER. Are they related?

Does anyone have any further information of Jane Hannah (Annie) CONDON marrying Samuel William CONDON.

she must have been a woman of intrigue as...
Jane Hannah was also known as Annie was also known as Joan Helen :)

see also HEATHER marriages New Zealand 1854-1931

Donald Louis Heather was born 3 Nov 1924 - died 15 Dec 2004

being born in 1924 suggests he was a son of Frederick & Lillian

Thanks once again ngairedith for your information. I sent last week for a copy of the marriage certificate of Frederick George and Lillian Dillon Heather. This will confirm that Frederick George was married in NZ before he moved to Australia. He doesn't appear to have maintained contact with Lillian and this is all interesting information.

Also Frederick George had listed Eileen Mary CONDON as his mother in a document I have but his birth certificate shows Jane Hannah CONDON as his mother. So the intrigue goes on.

Is it possible to find out where Donald Louis HEATHER is buried? Any likelyhood of a photo of the grave site. There are people here in Oz who have photographed many grave sites and are happy to forward them on to those researching their family history. Then again I feel a trip to NZ might help with some answers. All very interesting.

AND, of course, a trip to New Zealand (under the guise of research) would be good for the soul too :))

I will have a look around the cemeteries in a sec

How do I confirm birth and death details for Donald Louis HEATHER. I thought birth records for New Zealand were not available until 100 years after the birth.

Thanks No?l for taking the time to respond. I have been able to correspond with and find out a lot more about our branch of the Heather family in NZ. It has been very interesting. Once again thanks.
