"Looking for HODGE of Brixton England"

Journal by baynzee

Hello...I am trying to research the HODGE family that came out to Australia in about 1921. Hector Hogarth Hodge and Lillian Milly Hodge (nee Matthews)migrated to Victoria with their four sons Peter, Tony, Denny and Ronald Brian, not sure if there were daughters. My grandad is RONALD BRIAN HODGE. If anyone can shed some light I would be forever grateful.

That was fantastic, thankyou. Do you have anymore information as I am trying to find out the history of my grandad and his family. I am in WA so it is hard finding out information in Victoria where the rest of the family stayed.Nicole.

Check out the Rootschat website, register as a new user, free site, then scroll down to their 'Australia' childboard and post a lookup request. Lots of rootschatters have Victorian bdms on cd-rom for example.

Glad the arrival of the HODGE family was of some help. I will have a dig in the records and see what I can find out for you. The Victorian marriage index goes to 1942, but you need the names of the groom and bride to be sure you have the correct marriage. Even if you do find the correct marriage you will not find any of their children in the Victorian birth index because it only goes to 1920. It's never easy.
I will pass on my findings to you.

This may be of interest to you. Safe to say this will be your Peter HODGE. You can obtain a full service record for Peter from the National Archives of Australia if your interested. I obtained a few service records last year on some of my family and they cost $25.00 each, including postage.

I'm still looking at marriages and deaths in Victoria for your HODGE family and have found a few possibles. I need second given names to assist me ID them in the records. Any other little bits of info would be very helpful to me.

Nicole,

Hector is my grandfather and Tony my father. From WA they moved to Thornbury in Victoria. Dennis married Eileen and lived at Chadstone, Peter went to war and Tony married my mother (Jean Morton Gardiner). Hector is buried at Albany Creek, Queensland. As far as I know Peter is buried at the Sopata Memorial War Cemetary. My father Tony is buried at Nambour, Queensland. How do I contact you?

SSBev.
