Looking for info on Robert Peck of Knettishall, Suffolk, England
Robert PECK was born 20 June 1790 in Knettishall, Suffolk. England. He first married Anne ANDREWS on the 18 April, 1808 in Knettishall, Suffolk. England. Both parties were single at time. Marriage by Banns read 3rd, 10th and 17 April, 1808.
Their first born is registered as Male, before 1810.
Second born: Rebecca born 20 June 1810, Hopton, Suffolk.
Third born: Mary born 10 April, 1812, Hopton, Suffolk.
Fourth born: Male circa. 1814.
He then married Elizabeth ANDERSON, query when, and they had three children.
Henry, christened 28 June 1818 Old Buckenham, Norfolk.
James, Christened 8 April, 1821 Old Buckenham, Norfolk, MY LINE
Robert, christened 21 Sep 1823 Attleborough, Norfolk.
Until rececently I thought first and fourth born males were stilborns, but it has come to light that fourth born male may have been called John.
A fellow researcher, researching this family was sent the 1851 census for East Tilbury in Essex. It shows what looks like our Robert PECK (1790) - it says he was 61 yrs old and was born at Netsell, Suffolk. (Which could be bad spelling for Knettishall, Suffolk. Also on this form Robert's relationship to the head of the house is FATHER. The head of the house is John Peck, aged 35yrs, born at Rushford, Suffolk.
Rushford, Nettishall and Hopton are all side by side on the map. The ages for both Robert and John are correct.
What we are looking for is any info at all on Anne Andrews, date of birth, where, parents, date of death etc. She died after 1814 and before 1818 when Robert and Elizabeth's first born arrived. She does not seem to have any info out there that we can find.
Info on Robert's parents etc John PECK and Mary ADAMS, both appear to have been born Knetishall, Suffolk.
Info on Elizabeth ANDERSON, date of birth, where, parents, we know her date of death was before the 1851 Census, as Robert was a widower.
James, my line, born 8 April 1821, Old Buckenham, Norfolk, married Amelia ALDOUS, born 3 January, 1818, Old Buckenham, christened 25 January, 1818, Old Buckenham. Her parents were Zephaniah Aldous (1778 - 1841) and Alice HUNT (1781 - 1844). Amelia was the eldest of three children, (that I could find)
William born 1820 Old Buckenham, died 1903 Bethnal Green, London, married Sarah Woodcock BLACKBURN (1820 - 1886) 12 June 1842, Lambeth, London. He then married Mary COLE (1830 - 1901) 28 August, 1890, Lambeth, London.
Charles born 1823 Old Buckenham, died 1901, Old Buckenham, married Elizabeth POTTER (1825 - 1902) 22 November 1850 Old Buckenham, Guiltcross.
In the 1851 James and Amelia lived at Staxford, Guiltcross, Old Buckenham, Norfolk.
James and Amelia had seven children in England before leaving on the ship "Alfred" in 1857. They left their first born son Charles in England having died query 13 February 1839. Charles was born 22 January 1839 in Old Buckenham.
They left all they had known behind and travelled to Australia to an unknown entity, with their six children and Amelia pregnant. Amelia gave birth to a daughter on board the "Alfred", in Sydney Harbour, NSW Astl, on 30 July, 1857 calling her Amelia. Sadly, Amelia died after having thrush for three days, on the 19 August, 1857 in Sydney. NSW Astl.
They then moved to the South Coast of NSW where Amelia gave birth to Henry (MY LINE) on 21 December, 1859 at Mt. Keira, NSW.
Sometime after 1859 the family spent 10 years in Victoria, Astl, but as yet cannot pin down time period. James also developed "gold fever" in NSW, taking his family over the Blue Mountains, (west of Sydney).

Henry (MY LINE) first married Charlotte HITCHCOCK(1865 - 1897) on 27 June 1887 at Kangaroo Valley, NSW. Charlotte was the daughter of John Hitchcock (1838 - 1929) and Maria ISON (1844 - 1929). Charlotte was born in 1865, reg. in Shoalhaven Dist. NSW. She was an excellent horsewoman, she had show horses and she is reputed to have been the first woman to jump a horse sidesadle. She was an excellent needlewoman, teaching needlework at the schools where her husband Henry taught, (he being a school teacher). She also loved flowers and her garden, but her horses were the joy of her life. She died on 13 June 1897, aged 32, from a fall from her favourite horse, being pregnant at the time with her fifth child. Neither she or her child survived. I have a picture of her on her horse with ribbons and patches on her sleeves from here winning at shows etc.
Henry and Charlotte's children:
Annie Florence born 4 Oct 1888 Bagdad. NSW
died 10 Dec 1957 Kempsey. NSW
Charles Henry born 31 Jan 1891 Budgong. NSW
died 25 Jan 1974 Sydney. NSW
Lillian May born 12 Mar 1893 Euralie, Yass NSW
died 22 Jun 1950 New Zealand
Cecil Bertram Valentine born 31 Dec 1896 The Rock, Wagga Wagga NSW
died 11 May 1917 (WW1) France
After Charlotte died her sister Ann Maria moved in to look after the children and the household, but in those days it was frowned upon, to have a man and woman living in the same house and not married.
Henry asked Ann Maria to marry him and on 21 December, 1898 they married. They married at Rookwood, Lidcombe, NSW, for everyone who knows the name Rookwood, yes, it is the cemetery. Henry's sister Elizabeth, married James RIDLEY who was the caretaker for Rookwood Cemetery and Henry and Ann Maria married in the caretaker's cottage.
The story goes that Ann Maria's family shunned her for marrying Henry, but she wanted to look after her neices and nephews. Ann Maria was born 6 July 1870 at Budgong, near Nowra. NSW.
She also was a great needlewoman, teaching along side Henry at the different schools he was transferred to. (I have a little pink, seethrough babies dress and petticoat she made for me when I was a baby).
Henry and Ann Maria's children:
Albert Ernest William born 25 Oct 1899 Stuarts Point NSW (MY LINE) (My Grandfather) died 17 Dec 1967 Kempsey. NSW
Alfred James born 18 May 1902 Pelican Island NSW
died 1 Dec 1966 Wagga Wagga NSW

died 23 Nov 1967 Sydney. NSW
Frederick Leo born 12 Sep 1906 Pelican Island NSW
died 28 May 1983 Wagga Wagga NSW
Arthur Macleay born 17 Mar 1911 Kempsey. NSW
died 4 Mar 1974 Thirroul. NSW
My grandfather married Alma Jane PARTRIDGE, born 16 March 1899 Summer Island, NSW daughter of James PARTRIDGE(1867 - 1923) and Jane PRICE (1867 - 1948) on 29 December 1928 at Kinchella, NSW. They had two sons.
Henry retired from teaching to Warwick Street, Penrith, before buying three house lots in Parramatta on what was called the old Toohey Estate. They also lived in Westmead. Henry loved to read, gardening and was an excellent sketcher. Henry died at his home in Parramatta on 7 September 1939 and was cremated at Rookwood, Lidcombe, NSW on 8 September 1939.
When Henry retired from teaching he was at Luddenham Public School and was presented with a large silver engraved teapot, I now have possession of this teapot, handed down to me from my grandfather.
Ann Maria died 25 June 1958 at Thirroul at her son's home and was cremated at Woronora Crematorium, Sutherland on 27 June 1958.
I have started to write a book on Henry's life, but not many of the old folk around who remember him clearly.

I am very excited about finding this. I am researching this family with 3 others, from Australia, Canada and NZ. I too have the census 1851 with Robert PECK living with his son John, wife Mary and sons. This John PECK is our line through his son James. We have not been able to find anything about his father so I thrilled to find your posting.
I live in Auckland NZ.
My Grandmother was Lillian Peck. Her Father was Henry, Mother Charlotte.
My Grandmother was a nurse in Paramatta, at about age 30 she eloped to NZ with my grandfather Robert Hill.
In about 1929 Charles & Stanley went to NZ to try to encourage Lillian to return to Australia. By then she had 4 children but the children were not included in the invitation & Lillian remained in NZ mother to another 5 children in an unhappy marriage.
I'm interested in anyone with the surname WOODCOCK especially from Norfolk (Winfarthing).
Q.Who were the parents of Sarah Woodcock Blackburn?
Alison (Editor)
Hi Alison,
Sarah Woodcock Blackburn's parents were Barnabas Blackburn and Maria Woodcock. Maria born cir. 1794 in Norfolk, England. I do not have any more info than that. I believe they had five children, (that I could find, anyway) Charles, cir 1786 Old Buckenham, Sarah, 10 Jan 1820 Old Buckenham, John cir 1822 Old Buck., Alfred, cir 1831 Old Buck. and Arthur cir 1834 Old Buck. Hope this info helps. Lynn
Hi Kean,
I have been in contact with a lady in NZ who is a grandaughter of James Robert Hill and his first wife, Margaret Tippett. Last I heard she was in contact with two of James' and Lillian's daughter's. Which line do you come down through? Lynn
I found your family information very interesting, Charles Aldous 1828, brother of Amelia is my great, great grandfather. Now i have been able to add Amelia and William to my tree. Have you managed to find out any infromation prior to Zephania? what they did for a living or where they lived?
Thanks Christine Aldous, Sussex England
Have Stanley Victor Peck in a tree, who married Edith Appleton in 1942. Unsure whether there were any issues.
Interested to learn if anyone has additional information of the above.
