Looking for information about John Pritchard Guthrie, arrived in NZ circa 1855
I am trying to find out more about the life and origins of John Pritchard Guthrie.
I believe that he arrived aboard the Barque "Invincible" from Melbourne in January 1855. That he was in business for a period with another passenger, one James Fussell. Their partnership was dissolved in June 1857. I believe that they had been farming together as I have found an advertisement for the sale of their beef and wethers at the Pupuke Quarterley Cattle Fair in November 1855.
John Pritchard Guthrie married Mary Hawkins in 1862 in St John the Baptist Church, North Shore. They went on to live in Matakana for a period, before settling in Thames. In Thames, John was a Carter and owned property at Mackay Street Thames, per the Burgess Roll 1887.
He passed away in 1908, aged 75 years and his remains are in the Shortland Cemetery, Thames with members of his NZ family.
I am wondering where he was born...
I believe he had a brother, William John Guthrie (buried with him),
... and what brought them to New Zealand.
Can anyone help with more information?
