Looking for information on Caleb Shirley and Phoebe Gibbons Shirley

I am looking for information on Caleb Shirley b. 1788 married Phoebe Gibbons 3/25/1819. I am certain he was not the Caleb Shirley that was killed 10/8/1864. Phoebe died in 1861.
I would like to know when, where and how he died and his burial place.

Caleb Shirley (son of James Shirley and Mary McMekin) was born 1788 in South Carolina, and died (****1864 in Carroll Co. Mo.)
******l do not believe this to be accurate although multiple family trees state it as a fact siting other trees as their source.
A union soldier by the name of Caleb W. Shirley was attacked and murdered by guerrilla soldiers on Oct. 8, 1864 in Leslie Township, Carroll County, Missouri.
That information was obtained from a book named HISTORY OF CARROLL COUNTY, pg 363.
The Caleb Shirley I am seeking, my 3rd gr. grandfather, was 76 yrs old in 1864. It is doubtful that he would have been a Union Soldier at that advanced age.*****
He married Phoebe Gibbons on March 25, 1819, in Barren county, Kentucky
