Looking for information on Job & Maria DAVILL of Reynella, South Australia. Emigrated in 1856 aboard "Switzwerland"

Query by sasdoc

Job and Maria DAVILL are my great, great grandparents. They emigrated to South Australia in 1856 aboard the "Switzerland". They had 8 children: 3 sons and five daughters. One son John Edward (order in family unknown) is my great grandfather. He married Mary STONE, daughter of Henry STONE at Orroroo, South Australia. John and Mary had 4 sons and 4 daughters. Their youngest son, Howard Keith is my paternal grandfather. He married Ruby Lillian BARRETT third daughter of J. BARRETT of Appila, on 11/11/1933 at the Wilmington Methodist Church. They initially lived in Wilmington before moving to Jamestown. Howard and Ruby had 2 sons Dalton Keith (12/2/1936 - 3/5/2008 ) and Rodney Howard. Dalton is my father. As both my father and uncle are deceased I have been unable to obtain much information about my family. Any details would be appreciated.

REYNELLA, May 5.? Mrs. Davill, who died on May 3, came to South Australia in the Switzerland in 1856 and resided in the District of Reyndla for forty-four years. For the last twenty-three years she had been a widow, Mr. Job Davi'll having died in 1877. Her death will be felt by a very large number of people. Sympathetic and generous, she was a friend to all classes who sought her when in trouble. She was closely associated with the Methodist Church. One son, Mr. Fred. Davill, still occupies the old home; and two daughters, Mrs. Sparrow and Mrs. Barton, also reside at Reynella. There are also two sons and two daughters at Orroroo and Marchand.

Fred that they mention there married Ethel Crocker in Gawler. I came across it on another occasion.

Hi,
Not your Job Davill but a Thomas Davill, 22, from Bingham Nottingham was on the 'Nashwauk' when it was wrecked on 13th May 1855 at the mouth of the Onkaparinga River. Thomas received a 2 pound gratuity from the South Australian Government in 1856 I assume because of being shipwrecked.

Thomas was travelling with Mary Davill,(Morris), 20.

Regards
Gerry

TONKIN- Found another child of Maria & Job. Sarah Hannah born 9th december 1861 at O'Halloran Hill, SA. Died 6th june 1878 at Happy Valley, SA age 16. Thankyou for your info.
Gerry, thanks for info on Job & Maria's birth dates/places. I found a Mary & Thomas Davill who came here 21/5/1856 on the cutter Breeze, in the SA Register
(Adelaide, SA: 1839-1900) 22/5/1856 page 2 titled "Shipping Intelligence, Arrived Coastwise". Interesting. Will have to dig further.

Sorry sasdoc, I'm must be going blind. Sarah appears on my research page but I never included her in the family record. But she's there now.
