Looking for Information on Mickel or Michael Donahoe born about 1837 Ireland (Possibly Co Mayo)
Michael was born in Ireland around 1837 to parents William Donahoe and Winifred Shanley who were both born around 1800 possibly in County Mayo. Michael was brought up in Edinburgh. He married Ann Boyle, and they had a son called James Dunachie 1862-1949. From then on our family name was Dunachie! Michael Donohoe was a mason's labourer and died after falling from a tenement building in St Giles Street Edinburgh on 14th March 1872. He was my 2nd Gt Grandfather, and I would like to trace his ancestors, but I am not sure what part of Ireland they came from. I am told they may have come from County Mayo, but nobody is sure. Michael had a brother called Patrick.
Does anyone know anything about Michael and his family please?

Hi, thanks for your help. I am not sure what you can see as I am new to this site, so I will copy in what I entered before:

Hope that helps. I don't know any details about Patrick, except that he was the informant of Michael's death, so they may have travelled to Ireland together, and worked as mason's labourers together. They were both living in Borthwick Close Edinburgh at the time of Michael's death. It was one of the overcrowded tenement buildings in the centre of Edinburgh where a lot of the Irish immigrants lived at the time. Michael fell 5 storeys from a tenement building that he was working on, and died of severe injuries to head and limbs. He was only 36, and his son James only 10! Tragic!
