Looking for information on William Mead of Tasmania

Query by Lambsy

Hi I am looking for any information on William Mead who came to Tasmania Australia and married Ann Fisher nee Garth in 1855 they had 2 children that I am aware of Clara Esther born 1856 died 1932 and Charles Ernest born 1858 died 1893,I believe William was born in 1827 as on his wedding certificate states him as being 28 years of age in 1855 the last thing I can find on him is on Trove for the year 1897 so I can't find when he died or how he got to Tasmania or anything on his parents also on Ancestry.com they say he was born at Gillingham,Dorset,England but I can't find anything to confirm this so any information would be gratefully received cheers !

Thanks Morgan2409 I have managed to find most of this information and the thing I can't get my head around is why he would have lied about his age on his marriage certificate ie it states his age as 28 but with this other information he would only have been 20 also on the subject of William there is mention of a Amy Isabel Forbes nee Mead being William Mead's daughter in a court case in 1895 and also there is a mention of a Herbert Edmund Mead being William Mead's son in Herberts death notice on Thursday 28th September 1905 so I am confused cheers !

by Lambsy on 2015-02-23 02:15:36

Sorry Morgan2409 I meant his age at marriage would have been 36 not 28 going by the other information !

FORBES V. FORBES.
This was a case in which Amy Isabel Forbes petitioned for a judicial separation from Henry Blair Forbes, her husband, on the grounds of cruelty.
Mr. Harold Crisp appeared for the petitioner. The respondent did not appear.
The petitioner gave evidence to the effect that she was married in 1883, and shortly after her marriage her husband began to treat her very cruelly, which behaviour he had continued up to the present time. Evidence was called in corroboration.
Mr. Crisp said that he did not ask for alimony, but simply for tho costs of the action, and that the petitioner should have custody of the infant daughter of the marriage.
The application was granted

I have also managed to find a Amy Ann Mead born 1st of November 1844 born to a Thomas Mead and Susan Miller in Hobart so that makes it even more confusing !

by Morgan2409 on 2015-02-24 02:59:22

I think that the confusion lies with William Mead. There is more than one, I am usually wrong but I don't think that the Hoteliers are not your Meads. There is some relationship, but What?
