Now believe that Jean was fostered out to a Annie Ballymore.
There is a court record of Annie wanting money from Eva.
Does anyone know where Annie moved to?

by ngairedith on 2016-08-12 23:29:26

that was in Feilding in Jan 1914 and note that her name was spelled Bullymore

Annie Bullymore (1880-1965) was the wife of John 'William' Vincent Bullymore (1871-1933), who died 8 March 1933 and is buried Kelvin Grove.
Their known children were: Gladys 'Winifred' Te Rangi Bullymore (1908-2003), Kathleen Mary Bullymore (1909-1983) & Frances Margaret Bullymore (1918-2006)

Annie had a convalescent home for invalids in Awahuri and in 1916 opened a Nursing Home at 15 Princess St., Palmerston North.
She sold all her "high-class household furniture" at that address on 20 Aug 1917

There was an Annie Bullymore in the Wellington region in 1930

Annie was last living at 19 Shakespeare Ave., Enderley, Hamilton when she passed on 6 Oct 1965 and is buried at Hamilton Park Cemetery

Thank you Ngairedith.

It has been very frustrating trying to find Jean who is my Aunt.
She appears to have disappeared off the map. No marriage or death.
Thought I had tracked her to Columbia School in Dunedin but they said no.

If Annie had a home for invalids would she have been bothered with a child.

keep an eye on these dates Clawsmum and keep an open mind ...

* Jean Budd was born 27 Sep 1909
* Annie's daughter Gladys was born 12 Aug 1908
* Annie's daughter Kathleen was born (or registered) 12 Aug 1910 - BUT ... BDM has her as being born 12 Aug 1909

daughter Kathleen was living at 28 Galloway St., Hamilton East when she passed on 3 April 1983. She is buried GOM-J-264 at Hamilton Park cemetery
Her death records say she was born 12 Aug 1909!! which is a huge indication that Annie fudged the records so as to hide the true birth date (suggesting she could be your Jean)
Kathleen's husband (whom she married in 1931), James Hunter Walker (1900-1997) died in the Sunningdale Rest Care Home in Claudelands, Hamilton on 15 March 1995 and is buried with her

Annie's husband William Bullymore at Kelvin Grove

oh dear ...
are you aware that Eva Budd had another daughter, father not named, on 17 Oct 1912. She registered her as Cathleen May

Cathleen May & Kathleen Mary ??
this is becoming bigger than Ben Hur ;)

Hate to tell you that she had 2 more illegitimate children under her maiden name Verchild 1914 and 1915. I have both of these as one is my mother. She then had another in 1928, no father shown but we know who that one is.

I would never have thought of Annie keeping the child and the dates do fit in with each other. Would it be possible that she had children of her own that died so she passed Jean and Cathleen off as her own.

The plot thickens with every find.

Thank you for all your help.

yes I do know about Richard & Mavis. Didn't know about the one in 1928
I personally think (for whatever that's worth lol) that she took in children and possibly adopted them or just fostered them but changed their names. She seems to have had a caring-for nature with her homes etc. OR she knew Eva?
There are only 3 children's names on William's headstone.

Cathleen May's & Kathleen Mary's birth/registration dates seem rather far apart but there is definitely something there to research for sure.

A very intriguing family hunt :)
As William's headstone was erected by their grandchildren perhaps one of them will come across this journal and comments and may be interested enough to come and help you (fingers crossed that they know more)
