looking for John Barnes of New Mills, Derbyshire, U.K.

Query by stevelewis

Hi,
I'm trying to trace the burial place of John Barnes Snr. and his son John Barnes, they lived worked and died here in New Mills, Derbyshire at a place known as Tor Top. The family arrive here from somewhere else and i'm hoping if i can discover their burial place i can locate their point of origin. They were mill owners so ought to have a substantial grave. They died in 1818 and 1852 respectively. Any information would be of tremendous help and gratefully received.

Was John Barnes Snr a Rev? I have John snr and jnr in my tree but I think one of mine was born at Lincolns Inn Fields, or may have married there possibly to Mary English. I have come across the mill reference before, but was not sure if it was my Barnes.

hi Shelly,
thanks for the reply. This looks promising as his first wife was called Mary, she died in Feb 1754. the date of John Snr death was 31st August 1818 and his eldest son John died 27th May 1852. If he was a Rev I havent come across a mention of it though I'd not rule it out.
Do any of the dated help tie it down?
